Mechon Hadar, a cutting-edge start-up nonprofit dedicated to building a Jewish community that is educated, egalitarian and engaged in social justice as a lived expression of Torah, seeks an experienced, professional Director of Strategy and Development.
The successful candidate will have a clear vision, a proven track record in managing a team, and experience raising major gifts from individuals and foundations. In this newly created position, the Director of Strategy and Development will work closely with the Executive Team and Board of Directors to build a sustainable future for Mechon Hadar.
The Director of Strategy and Development will be an integral part of the senior staff, reporting directly to the Executive Director and responsible for all fundraising activities. Currently a $1.3 million dollar operation with eight full time staff, Mechon Hadar plans to double its budget over the next five years. The Director of Strategy and Development will create and implement a comprehensive fundraising program, including major gifts and annual campaigns, to help us reach this goal.
SPECIFIC TASKS INCLUDE:
Manage team of development professionals, differentiating roles clearly.
- Prepare an annual development plan, including short and long-term objectives, fundraising projections and implementing programs and action strategies.
- Engage and manage executive team and board in development activities.
- Oversee identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.
- Oversee grant research and writing; generate reports in compliance with grant requirements.
- Develop and maintain an accurate and comprehensive record-keeping system of all pledges, gifts, grants, and donations with full information as to type, sources and purposes in compliance with all legal and fiscal requirements.
- Plan and execute special events.
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deal with unexpected situations in an effective and efficient manner.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong commitment and understanding of Mechon Hadar’s mission and goals; passion for Jewish learning.
- Flexibility and excitement to work in fast-paced, start-up environment.
- Superior professional presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated.
- Reputation for energy, initiative, intellect, flexibility and talent as a team player.
- Ability to balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail.
- Results-oriented and driven with an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising and problem-solving.
- Experience and ability to supervise a team and coach employees to reach their full potential
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings.
- Knowledge of Donor Perfect a strong plus.
