An Introduction to Core Issues in Modern Jewish Thought This course will give a survey of the classical modern thinkers with regards to their perceptions of God, the divine human relation/connection as well as the ethical consequences that arise from this connection. How present is God in the life of the human being, how does revelation happen, what does it mean and how – if at all – does God remain with the human being? Is a Jewish identity formed through a connection to God? What role does the human being play in this connection? Thinkers will include: Herman Cohen, Martin Buber, Franz Rosenzweig, Emanuel Levinas, Eugene Borowitz and Emil Fackenheim. |
